Program Overview
The Business English course combines practical skills for the workplace with English language development. The course involves practice in speaking skills (e.g. telephone language, presentations), and writing (e.g. business correspondence such as e-mails, letters, brief reports, etc.), as well as listening and reading comprehension using materials from the business context.
The Course is designed for two kinds of learners:
- Professionals who need to improve their English for better opportunities at work
- Students who want to improve their English to find a good job
The Business English courses lead to Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) examinations, at two levels depending on learner’s ability:
- BEC (Preliminary) – for Elementary level
- BEC (Vantage) – for Intermediate Level

* Sessions are held twice a week in 2-hour sessions
- Learners may choose to enroll in a course without sitting for the final Cambridge examination. Taking the final Cambridge ESOL exam is optional.
- For learners preparing to take the exam, we provide an additional exam preparation module of 8 hours at the end of each course.
- If you do not register for the Cambridge ESOL Exam, SPEED will issue a Certificate based on your overall performance and final results. You will also receive a course report which details your language level and progress
Enrolment
The courses lead to Cambridge ESOL Examination Certificates.
Enrolment Process
Before you enroll in a course, you have to sit for a placement test so that we can determine your level and place you in the course that is most appropriate for you. The fee for the placement test is Tk. 250/-.
