| Welcome to SPEED’s newest youth development program, Super Saturdays!
SPEED’s Youth Development Program, Super Saturdays, has been designed to promote physical, educational, and life skills necessary to prepare and empower youth to undertake leadership roles in their communities, and bring success in their personal lives. The program will equip students with the knowledge and skills to help young people become healthy, competent, coping and contributing individuals. In addition, it is an enriching opportunity for children from various backgrounds to come together under one roof to interact and enhance communication and socialization.
Super Saturdays will provide students of ages 9-18 years an opportunity to benefit from hands-on learning in a fun-filled environment and to spend their time constructively on Saturdays. SPEED will be offering a number of programs through sports, IT, and the Arts which will be held in the Uttara and Mirpur campuses of Scholastica school. These courses will be based on four- month semesters starting in the fall and spring each year.
Mission: To empower young people to reach their full potential outside school, working and learning in a stimulating environment in order to be productive, caring, disciplined and responsible citizens.
The Facts
- Once-a-week classes for children of ages 9 – 18 years on Saturdays
- Classes will be held in the Uttara and Mirpus campus of Scholastica school
- All sports will be held indoors in the multi-purpose hall
- All arts classes will be held in fully air-conditioned classrooms
All programs will maintain small group sizes – an average of 20 students
Experienced adult instructors who are practicing teachers, professionals in the field or artists
Some programs will include exciting off-site field trips
Participation in an Awards Ceremony at the end of each year, with certificates for all participants
A safe, creative and rewarding experience for students
Details of the Youth Development Program, Fall 2010 semester
Date: Saturday October 9, 2010
Location - STM Hall and other air conditioned classrooms, in the Senior Section Uttara campus of Scholastica
Duration: 4 months
Course Fee - Each course is Tk. 1,000 (plus 4.5% VAT) per month
Age Group - Ages 9 - 18 years, open to students from all schools
Goals of the Youth Development Program
1) Leadership: the ability to influence and support others in a positive manner for a common goal.
2) Citizenship: the opportunity, right, and responsibility to contribute to shaping the world around oneself and provide service to others.
3) Creativity: the ability to create ideas and objects using different perspectives, in a unique way
4) Personal Life Management: the skills needed to navigate in a changing world and to lead a healthy lifestyle, including discipline, communication skills and service.
5) Knowledge and Skills: the mastery of new skills, concepts and information related to areas of individual interest.
Programs
Sports
1) Soccer Pros: This program will focus on building basic skills, body movement, foot magic and team work to teach students fundamental soccer skills. The players will be familiarized with indoor soccer rules and, of course, there will be some fun competition.
2) Super Hoopers: Students will be taught the basics of shooting, dribbling skills, positioning and strategies. The students will also engage in individual skills and team competition.
3) Hand that Ball: Students will be taught all the fundamentals in skills, strategies and rules of Handball.
4) Volleyball above All: This course develops the basic skills in playing volleyball, including rules and techniques of playing the game.
5) Hit n Miss Table Tennis: Students will be taught fundamental in skills, strategies and rules of the game. They will also engage in healthy competitions.
Arts
1) Groovy Moves: This session will give students an opportunity to learn different styles of dancing, for example salsa, waltz and other western or latin dances.
2) Snapshots & Memories: This program will teach students about the basics of photography. Students will be given various assignments which will enhance their skills in the art and science of photography.
3) Creative Writing and Performance: In this course, students will be engaged in creative writing projects and performances which will help them develop English language skills, public speaking and performance skills with creativity. IT 
1) Art of Signs and Symbols: Introduction and basics of Graphic Design will be taught to the students, including elements of design, best practices in design and the use of graphic design software.
2) www.design: With the help of website design software programs, students will be taught to design, develop and manage their own websites.
Closing Ceremony
Every year, students will be given an opportunity to show off their skills and they will receive certificates for their efforts and participation.
